Loose Shifter

Postby TheDude » Tue Jan 01, 2013 10:33 am

I was working on my NSS and thought I would try to fix my loose shifter while I was at it. The plastic connection ball from the shifter cable broke and was floating on the selector arm attached to the NSS.

1. Gain access to NSS by removing battery and bracket.
2. Remove nut on top of NSS (it helps to hold selector still for removal with a prybar).
3. Slide off selector arm.
4. Grind off the rivot head and punch out metal piece.
5. Use nut, bolt and below to recreate the attachment.
6. I would recommend adding a rubber grommet to fill the space around the nut.

Nice pic. Did a couple repairs this way when Saab was out of cables with some instruction and direction from Ted. My only recommendation is use a nylock washer on top along with some red loctite. If a larger diameter second nut is used, it will fully fill the void in the plastic elbow and have zero play. Leave the top nut loose enough but snug enough to allow the joint to pivot.
