Replace convertible top

Postby hjaynes » Fri Oct 04, 2013 5:42 pm

I have a 99 93. Are there any places in Florida that replace the convertible tops? I am in the Jacksonville area. My read window is fine but too many leaks with the top.

Thanks!

I have two shops here in Melbourne to refer clients to that do excellent work. Replacement canvas from Saab for the OG9-3 runs $3056 (black pn5362579). There are a couple aftermarket alternatives for $850-$1400, however usually don't hold up very well from my experience. A customer with a '99 9-3 has had her canvas replaced three times under a one year warranty (reset one year each time) due to poor seams and other poor quality issues by a shop in Orlando her insurance company sent her to. For the extensive labor involved ($1200-$1600) you want to be sure your using a good quality canvas. Typically figure $600ish for additional seals, gaskets and trim panels which will tear apart when being removed from being dry rotted. Check your headliner as the foam within typically comes apart, add $710 for OE Saab or about $350 for aftermarket. Of course you can always hunt these down at junkyards as well but most of these tops are 10+ years old now and have taken a severe beating from the FL sun. Swapping the entire top mechanism is much easier than changing canvas, but you need 3-4 people to remove the assembly. It weighs a LOT.
