So, in my haste to finish replacing my water pump I stripped out one of the upper engine mount bolts. Any help/recommendations with finding a suitable replacement?

TheDude,

Wellllllllll. You can unload the passenger side engine mount by lifting the engine about one inch. To do this, use a piece of wood on a floor jack directly under the oil pan. Avoid the center of the pan, as that's the weakest part. OR, you can lift it with an engine crane in the engine lifting hook. Remove the big nut, the 10mm power steering hose support bracket bolt, and the remaining three of four bolts that secure the aluminum bracket on the right side of the engine bay. With the bracket off, carefully examine the threads in both supporting pieces. If the support piece is NOT cracked at the hole with the stripped threads you are in luck! Take your bolt to the auto parts store and ask for a heli-coil kit. Basically, you bore the hole with a slightly larger drill bit, then run a tap down it to cut threads for the new heli-coil insert. The heli-coil will accept your fourth bolt. However, if the support IS cracked you will need a replacement, (hello boneyard!). On my car the alternator support piece was cracked from the weight of the engine. Likely, occurred when the four bolts were tightened with the engine drooping, or unsupported. Neither one is a fun R&R. Reassemble in reverse order.

Happy SAABing!

Assume you mean one of the four 16mm bolts? Front or rear bracket? Rear is pn55564667 runs $62 new from Saab; front is pn55564668 runs $52 new from Saab. I would just order a new one and not mess with trying to repairing. VOR overnight drop ship from Saab runs about $25, cheap enough not even to bother trying to find a used one or repair. The rear bracket supports the upper belt idler and tensioner assembly so a good time to replace those as well. The front supports the PS pump.
