Saw my first new 9-5

Postby metrognome » Sun Nov 06, 2011 9:38 pm

I saw my first new 9-5 in the wild (meaning, not at the dealer) on I-95 in Georgia yesterday. It was from New York and it was moving faster than I wanted to go and weaving through traffic. I commented to my wife that may be the first and last one she ever sees. Anyone else seen one on the road?

I saw one down in Tampa where there seem to be more SAABofiles, but I believe you may be right on your comment "may be the last". GM is not going to let the agreement with the Chinese go through in it's current form. I can't blame them for being overly protective of their patents and intellectual property. Yet another setback and SAAB is really running out of time now. This is the first time I've started to lose faith in Victor and his ability to pull rabbits (plural) out of hats. it's a shame, really.....

Have seen about 5 since their release back in late '10. Usually on i-95, two local. Good sharp looking car for sure. Different enough to stand out from the rest but still looks mainstream enough to be widely accepted. Have not seen any 9-4X yet. Very few produced thus far. GM stopped production on Friday in Mexico on the 9-4X saying Saab was unable to pay for the vehicles being produced etc. May end up being the rarest, lowest production Saab ever made. Now with things up in the air with the sale to Chinese, GM technology licenses, a quickly declining dealer network for parts and service, and a severely tarnished bleeding brand perception...they have more and more to pull through as the days tick by.

Geez! I like to show my palms with thumbs touching when I see a fellow "the U" (Miami) fan. I get similar feelings when I see another SAABer in traffic. I've been known to follow 9000s to tell the about my Indy at State Auto Body in Winter Park, FL - (unpaid endorser). But, I haven't seen a 2011 9-5 in my part of Central FL. In fact, I have yet to see other than pictures of a 9-4x! Very sad for this former Saab rep...

There''s not even a janitor left at SAAB and yet journalists report Victor Mueller will stay on until his replacement is found. What a bleak state of affairs! Unpaid suppliers, unpaid wages since April, production stopped in Mexico, and GM's technology licensing issues. I had great hopes for SAAB with the Spyker purchase, but it's subsequent transfer to Swedish Automobile proved to be a major disappointment. Seems the bathtub drain has been lifted. Now the question is, who clean the ring?

It's a very sad situation. I feel less optimistic for SAAB right now than I think I ever have. I sort of want to see the whole brand/community put out of its misery, but I also know that would be bad for all the workers as well as us owners. I do worry about getting parts.

I feel confident that a deal will get done. Remember that GM will get nothing for their intellectual property if a deal doesn't get done. As far as I can tell, their current position is close to being stockholders in saabs current state. If the bankruptcy is finalized, stockholders get nothing and secured creditors, such as banks and some suppliers, split up any cash or liquidated assets.

I think nick is right eventually it will get done. There will probably be a clause that the Chinesse can't use the 9-4 platform.
