Top Gear UK Says Goodbye to Saab

Postby StrictlySaab » Mon Feb 27, 2012 2:45 pm

I edited down from the whole episode to show just the Saab portion. Overall a very nice piece by TG, whom never really seems to glow about the brand. I like how they portrayed Saab doing things different than the rest and continuing so even under GM rule. Enjoy.

Excellent, Justin! Thanks for sharing this. This is the kind of tribute I've been hoping to see. Clarkson did his best to say nasty things about SAAB, but he also didn't hesitate to say nice things when he felt they were warranted. I have checked the magazine stands lately, and there's been nary a peep from the US automotive print media about SAAB. Sadly, it's as if SAAB really did die a long time ago in many people's minds.

What I was surprised to hear Clarkson say was that nothing after the 99 Turbo really measured up. Most SAABisti seem to make that statement about the C900. Very interesting. Maybe there are just too few of us in the US who have ever had the good fortune to experience a 99.

Watched it last night on Youtube while at work.

I too thought it was a pretty nice piece. Nothing dishonest or purposely nasty, but it highlighted both the good and the bad about Saab's engineers being so obsessive with the cars... which dare I say, is why most of us love these cars so much. They ain't perfect, but at least the people who designed them CARED about what they were doing.

Good line: "Nobody could ever work out why Saabs cost so much... until you crashed one."
